NaNoWriMo and Self-Rewards

Hi everyone, NaNoWriMo is just a month away and I’m feeling mostly ready for it. While I have done it and won the last two years, this year I’m approaching it differently than I have before.

My main goal this year to feel less like I’m forcing words out and to still enjoy writing. I want this especially for the end of the month as that’s where I usually struggle the most with keeping up, then I have to pump out 5 000+ words on the last day to win. It’s more stressful than it should be in my opinion.

So, the main thing I have planned this year to help with that is implementing self-rewards. I even made a little chart to keep track where I get to colour it in as I make progress that’ll be hanging above my laptop for the month.

Now, my chart only shows one of my rewards and it’s for different mile stones than the daily word goal. Still, I’m hoping it’ll still help me stay on track. Basically, I’m going to put money into my savings account when I reach these goals and I’ll colour in as I complete each mark. So, there’s two rewards, one is increase my savings from what I usually do and two I get to colour! By the end of NaNoWriMo, I should save $280 more than usual and I’ll have a nice rainbow chart! πŸ™‚

I made another one for the daily word goals, but I’m unsure how useful it will as I’m still figuring out small rewards for those one and it’ll have me keep track of what day I reach those marks. The problem I have with it is I can’t plan around my job as I only get my schedule weekly. So, I may have to adjust this one as the month goes on – thus it’s on my computer and will be easy to change if needed. It may end up that I use the rewards daily and give them to myself simply for writing anything on a day I work.

How do you plan to stay motivated this NaNoWriMo?
